The CPVC Super Intalox Saddle is a high-performance random packing that represents an evolutionary improvement over the standard Intalox Saddle, manufactured from chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC). Its defining design change is the transformation of the smooth curved side surfaces into serrated shell-like edges, with additional holes that connect the inner and outer surfaces. This modification increases the free flow channels within the packing, promotes liquid distribution and surface renewal, and enhances fluid communication. The result is a packing with higher treatment capacity, lower pressure drop, and better mass transfer performance than the standard saddle ring.
CPVC material provides a significant performance upgrade over standard PVC. By increasing the chlorine content to 63-69%, CPVC achieves a heat distortion temperature above 90°C with long-term service at 95°C and short-term tolerance to 110°C—significantly higher than PVC's 60°C limit. More importantly, CPVC offers excellent resistance to chlorine gas, sodium hypochlorite, and sodium hydroxide, solving the corrosion problems that destroy ceramic and conventional plastic packings in chlor-alkali and bleach plant environments.
The saddle-shaped geometry prevents interlocking and nesting, ensuring uniform bed porosity, while the serrated edges and internal arches promote intimate gas-liquid contact with minimal drag. It is widely used in absorption, scrubbing, desulfurization, and drying towers across chemical, chlor-alkali, and environmental protection industries.
